Anele is an HPCSA (Helping Professions Council of South Africa)-registered Clinical Psychologist and a lecturer at the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Psychology. Outside academia, Anele practices as a divine healer (traditional healing) and a therapist in private practice. A huge advocate of African-centred psychology healing practices, he is also actively involved in the movement of Decolonizing Psychology.
Anele is also a devoted activist for the rights of the LGBTIQA+ community and has, so far, done commendable work in the education and dismantling of queer social constructs spaces. Anele’s academic insights have been published in peer-reviewed journals — and he continues to contribute to different books, on various topics, that advance African people.
In 2019, he was named winner of the ‘Titanium Young Achievers Award’ at the 20th Board of Healthcare Funders Conference. He is currently a nominee for ‘The Titanium Award for Excellence in Creating Access to Healthcare’.
